PENTINGNYA WATER SPRINKLER UNTUK MENINGKATKAN EFEKTIVITAS PENCEGAHAN KEBAKARAN DI BANGUNAN ASRAMA TOWER POLITEKNIK PENERBANGAN INDONESIA CURUG

Abstract

Fire is one of the disasters that can cause significant losses, both in terms of material damage and threats to human safety, especially in multi-story buildings such as dormitories. The Tower Dormitory of the Indonesian Aviation Polytechnic Curug currently lacks an active fire protection system in the form of a water sprinkler, which should be mandatorily installed in accordance with the provisions of the Minister of Public Works Regulation Number 26 of 2008. This study aims to analyze the importance of installing a water sprinkler system to improve the effectiveness of fire prevention in the building. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that the presence of a water sprinkler is highly important to automatically respond to fires at an early stage, thereby controlling the spread of flames, minimizing casualties, reducing building damage, and providing additional time for occupants to evacuate. Moreover, water sprinklers also serve to meet the safety standards of multi-story buildings. Therefore, the installation of this system is recommended as a priority in efforts to improve fire protection systems within the Tower Dormitory of the Indonesian Aviation Polytechnic Curug.
